Watch the rice closely!

This I have heard so many times during my childhood. Many of us back home started cooking rice at a very young age using the firewood stove and the art of starting a fire has become something of a second nature to us. But the most important thing was keeping an eye on what was on the stove so as not to burn it especially the rice. One shouldn't play or do anything while cooking it. Even if the others were calling you and pleading to join them outside. Stay put. Be on guard. Period.

Fast forward. Genève. My love affair with rice is so much deeper. I could not fanthom the idea of eating more pasta than rice in a week. Never mind the bulges. Though the voices of my grandparents still linger, cooking rice on the electric stove was a lot easier but kinda tricky for me during my pre-rice cooker days. My husband complained so many times of burnt casserole. It was then that I decided to make my life better and bought me a rice cooker. Boy, I love it. The thing made this clucking sound when ready. No staying put. I could do other task and in less than 15 minutes--voila! and the odor it brought out was just heavenly.

But most things don't last long, I should have known that. Now, after 3 years of staying together thru 2-3 cups most days, it bid me farewell today. No more red light, no more clucking. Just one nagging voice of my long lost grandfather "I have told you to watch the rice!"

whenever i see rice at the hotel cafeteria, I always always have my extra rice. Rice pa rin diba? :)

I am lucky though because my fiance's mom loves rice too and she always cook rice for me, since I am always out. She even bought me those frozen cooked rice, if ever I need them right away.

isn't that sweet?

Your post is so entertaining, I am imagining while reading a post written in Filipino, that gives smile in my heart :)d
The moment I came to the USA, I have been cooking my rice in the rice cooker. I do admit I miss the rice that is cooked on wood fire as it has a certain taste to it than in rice cooker. I have had my share of stories when it comes to cooking rice, burnt or uncooked. LOL! Anyway, I too love rice and pasta as well. My husband and my son both love rice and pasta just like me. Visiting!

Our mid-week get away in Dijon

Dijon, one of the cities in France, was the destination of our mid-week get away. The city, which is well known for its mustard,is a 3-hour train ride from Genève via Lausanne. As I've mentioned in my previous post ,this was my first time to visit the city. We arrived mid-day to a gloomy surrounding and headed to Quick, sort of Jollibee here. Yet,the real treat was in the old town. Walking on the paved street for me was like being transported to another era. Aside from Musée des Beaux-Arts Dijon, we were able to visit Cathédrale de Saint Bénigne and the Notre Dame de Dijon. However, due to time constraint we were not able to visit other places. Our evening meal was in Le Théâtre des Sens, a small but cozy restaurant and where I've tried escargot. Yes, I did and blame it on the kir! Our dinner was really good, the waiter was very cheery and accomodating. We stayed at the Hotel Des Ducs where we spent the rest of the night watching crime scene investigation. Ah! the joy of havin
