Thursday with Nanay

Be gentle with the young. Juvenal (55 AD - 127 AD) Yehey, pasta to the rescue!! It's cravattine with capsicum for K's lunch today. I have given her a small portion and she actually asked for a second serving. Need I say more?

A walk in the city

It has been quite a while since I arrived in Geneva and the city never ceases to amaze me. But now that we are living in another municipality--half an hour tram ride-- every outing is somekind of special excursion specially for my eldest who would say "wow!" to everything that she sees like a truly village girl that she is now. Our recent family outing was not an exception and though it was drizzling, off we went and headed to the city. I thought the weather would deter many people from taking a walk but I was mistaken. Though shops were closed, cafés and fastfood restos were open. I must say that we rarely eat at fastfood restaurant but on this particular day, my small family went to SwissMeal. Hubby and I agreed that the hamburger is better than McDo. The rain stopped. The girls were tired. Then it was time to leave and go back to our quiet neighborhood. We have enjoyed the day.

A date with Jose Rizal

Today is an exciting day for me so I got rid of my pink jogging pants and hello! black pants. Anyway, I assumed that my daughter would be a bit restless so she was in her pushchair. My friend was already among the the people who was present on today's inauguration of Jose Rizal's new plaque at rue du Rhone. Mayor Pagani was already doing his speech when we arrived. After the Philippine Ambassador's speech we headed to the reception. The food was good but I could feel my friend's apprehension. I was also feeling uneasy. But I was telling myself that I was with my fellow Filipinos and we were all there because of one thing---Jose Rizal---our national hero. I was hoping to see familiar faces but aside from a nun and an acquaintance most of them came from Bern. We never got to mingle and talk with others. Nevetheless, I have enjoyed the food and the company of a friend and my daughter.

Retiring with Papa Piolo?

I like reading the Money section in  the business page of Inquirer.net but lately I was having a hard time concentrating because of this guy. Just look at him...Tell me how can I concentrate when he  is staring back at me. ;-) All I want to do is read something about personal finance but he was there all the time--in the side bar with the caption -"Piolo to retire?" Moi? I want to retire, maybe with him but first let me read the money section in peace, without his tantalizing eyes, nor that question--because I might, just might click that Century Park ad and find out that he is  moving  with Ruffa Gutierrez in the same building but not in the same unit-ugh! I guess there's no other solution but to ignore his presence or maybe skip the business page altogether until the time he decided to move to an island....with me!! Oops, it seems that someone is spending too much time in the business page!!

Thursday with Nanay

"Life is a combination of magic and pasta." Federico Fellini Yeah, right! and I thought I was a magician.:-) Anyway, we started with so much hope here. She just had a slice of toast for breakfast and I know she would be really hungry. So I was thinking that pasta would give me some points. Actually she asked for some catsup. Did she notice that red was missing from the palette of pasta color? But I think the biggest no,no here was the soybean sprouts--what? Forgive me, but I need to cook them as they are nearing their end besides I really love them. Maybe my hubby won't put soybean sprouts in his pasta but remember that Thursday with Nanay is all about eating what's in the fridge. Fusilli with tuna and veggies Anyway(again), she didn't like the sprouts but did manage to eat the pasta. Well, I think I really need more than magic here.

Monkey Business

This is a guest post of Ms.Yani, MBA student. The following contains words not suitable for boring and no-sensa-humor workaholics, parental discretion is advised. Do you hate your boss? Coping with the corporate nightmare! Clearly your answer is an astounding yes because you would not put your faces closer to your monitors and read this spectacular, tastefully written article, right? If your answer is NO and you love your boss truly, madly, deeply--congratulations! You are one of the lucky ones on planet Earth or probably your boss is your spouse. But for those who answered YES! Like they won the lottery and who thinks truly, madly, deeply are adjectives to describe the way to bury their bosses to the ground, this article is for you. Your resident how-to girl would give you some advice to cope with the corporate nightmare. Hate as they say is a very strong word. If we try to look it up in the dictionary just between halitosis and hippopotamus, it says hate is defined as an ext

I'm no Victoria Beckham

It seems that everyone I know is into high heel shoes. Stiletto, wedge, pumps, etc. There are so many kinds and really gorgeous but I avoid them like a plague. Why? because I never get to be so comfortable in them. That's why I am always in awe whenever I see someone who walks gracefully in high heels and I do admire my friends who wear them with great ease. I recently saw this woman who was wearing a 4-inch stiletto heels platform sandals. They were really awesome, the kind Victoria Beckham wears, but goodness I just can't imagine myself wearing them. Anyway, as we were both waiting for the same bus I approached and complimented her on the sandals. I even asked her if she wasn't having a hard time walking in them. Apparently, she wasn't and prefers them because they made her taller. Moi? No way! I can't walk in high heels. A few years ago we attended a party and I wore a pair of knee high boots with 2 inch heels. Within 2 minutes of walking I gave up, luckily I ha

Just one of those days!!

On my way home there was this tremendous road work going on and as I passed by, the girl in front of me was given the second look by the workers. I could not help but smile with the silent admiration they had for the girl. She has been given this enormous gift of derrière. Mine is like a twig compare to hers. I was really jealous and asked: "Where was I when He showered this world with that."(admiring His other creations, perhaps!) Many times I had problems of buying the right jeans because it didn't fit well or there wasn't anything behind. Surgery is out of the question. For so many obvious reasons. A friend suggested somekind of enhancer, but it felt like the stockings would burst anytime. There was a time when I've discovered a frugal solution--putting tissues or purse in my rear pocket, but then I worried about pickpockets so that was shortlived.;-) This is why I miss being pregnant--my round belly compensated for the absence of my "behind" ;-), bu

Thursday with Nanay

Cooking Rule... If at first you don't succeed, order pizza. Anonymous corn soup and garlic bread It must be the wind--we went out for a while and had to go back coz it was windy and Erin didn't have her bonnet--coz she ate half  bowl of her corn soup. Of course, with loads of coaxing from Nanay. Maybe I'm getting there...maybe my persistence is beginning to pay off...oh, what the heck! maybe she's just hungry. Well, at least for now I don't need to order pizza.

Out and about with my girls

It might be rainy and a bit chilly but in the meantime I am planning my tour with the girls when the weather gets better. So, where to go? First stop is by the lake where Jet d'eau can be found. I also like to go to Bains des Paquis. The girls can play in the water, we can have a picnic but lunch is affordable there, this I have just discovered not so long ago. Yes, I know, it took me a looong while to get to know this coz I don't eat out a lot. From there we can just walk going to the English garden and have some ice cream and watch the boats. Karen loves boat and we used to take her for a ride. It's easy to do that if hubby is with us but with two children in the pushchair, I think boat ride can wait. Further up is the Rose Garden , I'm sure Karen will love running around Parc de la Grange. I was also told about Yvoire . Why do I get the feeling that I am the only one who hasn't been there? Anyway, for this week there's a lot of going ons here in Geneva and
Thank you so much guys!!!
