A week later...

Seems like eternity since we left our home to start this family adventure. My youngest daughter, Erin, expressed how she misses her bed and her stuff toys. I miss everything in Grand Lancy but the thought of visiting countries as a family truly excites me. We have reserved our accommodations till the end of the month thru AirBnB and two hotels. Three down and 3 to go. Breakfast in the Pousada Pouso Feliz consisted of bread, tapioca pancake, cheese, ham, cakes, guava juice and coffee. Issues Our main concern is the phone. Before departure, I have cancelled my phone subscription . Carlo read about TextNow and using WhatsApp in a blog here . Perhaps I have got too excited and didn’t read everything well. TextNow didn’t function well in my phone, lost half of my chats/messages in WhatsApp trying to reinstall it so that I can use both application. Thankfully, Carlo’s attempt didn’t work out and he was able to keep all his chats/msg. His phone subscription is until the end o...

First lesson & Fortaleza today

The heatwave in Lisbon was a good excuse to try out the girls’ very first lesson. Their materials given by the  school   directress and teacher Vero, were scanned and saved in a USB key. My husband also saved it in the   drive . Karen was given the task to read  Jean de Florette  by  Marcel Pagnol  and Erin has her french lesson. Frankly speaking they were motivated  because of the recompense afterwards. I guess we need to find a solution to this 🙂 and create a better schedule for their lesson. Why Jean de Florette? Before our trip, we have packed some books to be sent to  my home country  and didn’t realize that the girls did not pack any for our travels. There are card games and 4 other games to keep them occupied but not books. Pagnol ‘s Jean de Florette and  Manon des Sources  were supposed to be my “travel book” along with  JoĂ«l Dicker ‘s but teacher husband thought that the former will do for now until...

Sabbatical year

Our adventure has started. First stop is Lisbon, Portugal. Bom dia! Early morning in SacavĂ©m The dream My husband talked about wanting a Sabbatical Year for a long time. I was skeptical at first. How can we do it? Leaving our home for a year with two young daughters in tow. Yes, we have travelled a lot, using any possible mode of transportation but 12 months -- away from Verjus, our family and friends? How about my potager and my job ? The how January 2018-we started to organize our trip and to facilitate this I emailed 3 travel agencies in Geneva and only STA responded, thanks to Marina . The girls' school directress was also given notice. In the months that followed and the inevitable departure  looming, my girls and I have started sorting their toys and clothes out. Packed, recycled or trashed. Sold small stuff as well thru Facebook and my favorite Bourse aux vĂŞtements in Grand-Lancy . Visa and accomodations were readied. Visited doctors, consul...
