Sabbatical year

Bom dia! Early morning in Sacavém

The dream

My husband talked about wanting a Sabbatical Year for a long time. I was skeptical at first. How can we do it? Leaving our home for a year with two young daughters in tow. Yes, we have travelled a lot, using any possible mode of transportation but 12 months -- away from Verjus, our family and friends? How about my potager and my job ?

The how

January 2018-we started to organize our trip and to facilitate this I emailed 3 travel agencies in Geneva and only STA responded, thanks to Marina. The girls' school directress was also given notice.
In the months that followed and the inevitable departure  looming, my girls and I have started sorting their toys and clothes out. Packed, recycled or trashed. Sold small stuff as well thru Facebook and my favorite Bourse aux vêtements in Grand-Lancy. Visa and accomodations were readied. Visited doctors, consulted and had our vaccination.
One of the important questions was what to pack for our travel that would not exceed the alloted weight that each adult could carry. With my  SIL's help,we have managed to have 19  & 17 kgs each for adults using this and this  and the girls' luggage at 10kgs  which they can pull/carry easily when using the public transport. Each one of us has a backpack not exceeding 7 kgs as a carry-on.

We are grateful to the others who have preceded us. Their blogs about family travel  gave us useful insights and coupling it with our travel experiences made us believe that our family are equipped for this adventure. However, nearing our departure, our family has suffered the loss of Lola. We are so fortunate to travel with her for so many years.
As we begin this trip, we hope you can follow us. Please do not hesitate to share your insights and suggestions for this family of 4. We are learning and will continue learning in this great adventure.

Just posted a year on the road video – in 3 minutes – for inspiration. Looking forward to follow you!

Our mid-week get away in Dijon

Dijon, one of the cities in France, was the destination of our mid-week get away. The city, which is well known for its mustard,is a 3-hour train ride from Genève via Lausanne. As I've mentioned in my previous post ,this was my first time to visit the city. We arrived mid-day to a gloomy surrounding and headed to Quick, sort of Jollibee here. Yet,the real treat was in the old town. Walking on the paved street for me was like being transported to another era. Aside from Musée des Beaux-Arts Dijon, we were able to visit Cathédrale de Saint Bénigne and the Notre Dame de Dijon. However, due to time constraint we were not able to visit other places. Our evening meal was in Le Théâtre des Sens, a small but cozy restaurant and where I've tried escargot. Yes, I did and blame it on the kir! Our dinner was really good, the waiter was very cheery and accomodating. We stayed at the Hotel Des Ducs where we spent the rest of the night watching crime scene investigation. Ah! the joy of havin...

Imortal invades my home

A special thanks to My CHOS for letting me use the above photo. Just click on the photo to see more of John Lloyd and Angel Locsin. Recently, I have been smiling a lot because of John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin. This is after I have discovered Imortal one fine afternoon when the girls were having their nap and Nanay was having her quiet moment. Many viewers have compared the series to Twilight which I haven't seen yet. Yes, I might be the only soul who has not seen the film though I &hearts Robert Pattinson's eyes. Maybe soon, when I've got the time. Anyway, back to Imortal and John Lloyd Cruz--yes, this is my new fave tv series. I look forward every night for my girls to go to bed so that I can watch Imortal in peace. There are times when I just watch a week of the series on Fridays. This saves me time and I got to do something else. There's only one thing which frustrates me--nobody to share my "kilig Imortal" moments with. Now,please excuse me if I...

Vacation over

It's kinda hard to get up early again after 2 weeks of staying up late.I've started taking the girls early to bed and of course, they're awake at around 6h30. My husband on the other hand has started working and I think he misses his late mornings. Now it's back to normal sched again. Now, I'm lazily doing my chores and still hoping that my mug of coffee will take effect soon. How do you get back to normal routine after weeks of vacation?
